Stephen Bailey is a Jamaican- American Director, Cinematographer and Producer seeking to expand our understanding of our universe and our place within it. From war zones in Somalia and Iraq to ballrooms in Harlem, his work highlights the transformation of those who turn their greatest limitation into their greatest strength — those who go beyond the limits of their mind, body and culture to expand our belief of what is possible.
His recent work includes DP for “Seen & Heard “(HBO), executive-produced by Issa Rae. Ladies First (Netflix) and Hair Tales (HULU) featuring Oprah, Tracie Ellis Ross, Chloe Bailey and Michaela Angela Davis. He directed two hour-long episodes of the Joe Berlinger docu-series, “Shadowland” (Peacock) and on the PBS series, Southern Storytellers. His debut feature-film as Producer and DP, “Legend of the Underground”, premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and chronicles the lives of Nigeria’s defiant non-conformist community.
Stephen is a 2022 DOCNYC 40 under 40 Honoree and is currently Co-Directing a feature documentary with Concordia Studios.
